This data package contains the raw, unedited data gathered by the Multilingualism & Participation Project (M&M-project). This research project was installed by Utrecht University's Executive Board from 2020-2022 to research multilingualism in Utrecht University's participatory bodies (e.g., the University Council, Faculty Councils, and Education Committees). In addition, the project focused on creating a receptive Dutch course for international employee and student representatives based on scientific findings and authentic meeting materials. The project was headed by em. prof. dr. Jan D. ten Thije and managed by researcher Kimberly Naber. The project's other primary researchers were dr. Kimberley Mulder and dr. Frederike Groothoff; the project's assistant was Annick van der Bijl.
The results of the research carried out by the project indicated that multilingual multilingual meetings can be successful with the right guidance. Therefore, the project created a workshop multilingual meetings, a toolkit multilingual meetings, a receptive Dutch course for representatives, and a choice model for the university's language policy. Additionally, the M&M-project offered a final report of its findings and recommendations to Utrecht University's Executive Board and the University Council. As a result, Utrecht University continues to have a multilingual language policy.
The data from this data package will be stored for a maximum of ten years. It contains recordings and transcripts of Utrecht University participatory body meetings; recordings of the three pilots of the receptive Dutch course; recordings and transcripts of focus group interviews carried out by the project; and recordings of interviews with international University Council members and their interpreters.
